Signature proven counterfeit
Oil on canvas. Composition without title, signed "Coignard" size 59x72 cm. The painting was sold in October 2012 at an online auction house in Stockholm. The painting had been observed by a private individual who had, on his own initiative, contacted the "Archives James Coignard" in France which confirmed that the painting was a forgery. The painting was seized by police in Stockholm City for further investigation. The owner stated during questioning that he paid 2000 SEK (approximately 200 euros) for the painting, and that he was never hesitant about the painting's authenticity. After the expert examination, the Court held that it was a forgery.
