Signature proven counterfeit
Watercolor on cardboard, Portrait of Sibelius, signed "A Edelfelt", 31x36 cm. Ostensibly depicting a genuine painting by the renowned Finnish artist Albert Edelfelt (1854-1905). In 2001 bought an art dealer, by an unknown person, a number of paintings by famous Finnish artists such as Eero Järnefelt, Unto Koistinen, Schjerfbeck etc. The price was 134,000 Finnish marks. The art dealer began to doubt the authenticity of the paintings and sent them to Athenaeum in Helsinki for investigation. All the paintings were fakes, some clumsily executed. The suspected man said he bought the paintings of an unknown man, ca. 50-60 years old at a racetrack in Jyväskylästä Finland. Upon examination of the man's car and home, police found several counterfeit items. Court: The man was convicted of serious fraud.

Oil on canvas, portrait of a young girl, signed "A Edelfelt", 44x28 cm. Ostensibly depicting a genuine painting by the renowned Finnish artist Albert Edelfelt (1854-1905). The painting is one of several counterfeits in a collection donated to the police crime Museum from the Art History Museum in Turku.
