Arthur Calame biography:
Jean Baptiste Arthur Calame was born in Geneva. Between 1864 and 1867, he studied under Oswald Achenbach (1827-1905) in Dusseldorf. The (Italian) landscape was his most preferred motif, whereas the interpretation of light was also of great interest to the artist. A well-established artist, he had the chance to exhibited his works in Berlin, Dresden, Vienna, Munich and Switzerland. Besides, he was also interested in etching, because it helped him to document his impressions of his travels through France, Italy and Switzerland. Examples of his artistic output are now included in the museum collections in Geneva, Berne, Basle and Schaffhausen.
