Oil on board, composition, approx. 58x50 cm. signed "b.j.Carlstedt.53". Ostensibly depicting a genuine painting by the renowned Finnish artist Birger Carlstedt, (1907-1975). The painting is part of one of the many cases of fraud, the police seized during the late 1990s and early 2000s in Finland. An art dealer in Vaasa was offered in 2001, paintings by famous Finnish artists. It turned out later that the paintings were forgeries. The suspect, who was convicted of fraud, gross fraud and forgery, said he had bought the paintings by an unknown man on the racetrack in Vermo, Finland. This painting is clumsy and more playful than authentic paintings by Carlstedt. After investigation and judgment were declared that the painting is not genuine. It is a forgery.
