Charlotte Gyllenhammar har under de senaste åren konsekvent överraskat den svenska konstpubliken genom att alltid gå sin egen väg och finna egna uttryckssätt. Hennes installationer och konstverk är egensinninga och uttrycksfulla och skapar en fascination, dialog och reaktion hos sina betraktare. Gyllenhammar är mångfacetterad och arbetar ständigt med nya typer av material och medier, sällan rör det sig om traditionellt oljemåleri på duk. Installationer, skulpturer, video och fotografi såväl som teckningar är vanligare. Många är vi säkerligen som exempelvis minns den upp och ner vända 120 år gamla eken Dö för dig som 1993 hängdes över Drottninggatan i Stockholm. 2004 visades Gyllenhammars största separatutställning privat idiot, ett samarbete mellan Kulturhuset i Stockholm och Dunkers Kulturhus i Helsingborg. Till utställningen skapades delvis nya verk, auktionens skulptur är ett sådant verk. Den visades tillsammans med flera andra sovande barnskulpturer under den gemensamma titeln Daycare. Barnet är ett återkommande tema hos Gyllenhammar, likaså utsattheten, oron och den ständiga faran som lurar bakom hörnet.
