David Wretling var elev till Carl Milles. Han studerade även vid Konstakademien, företog flera resot till Frankrike och Italien. Han har modellerat porträttbyster samt figurer, ett antal av hans skulpturer står runt om i Umeå, bland annat i Umedalens skulpturpark. I Nobelparken i Stockholm finns hans pojke in klädd i flytväst med en segelbåt i handen; Den första båten rest 1982.
Offentlig utsmyckning: kyrkliga skulpturer, i Sävar, Degerfors och Ransäters kyrkor.
