Scanavino gehört zu den wichtigsten Vertretern der Abstrakten Kunst in Italien nach dem 2. Weltkrieg. Er lernte an der Kunstschule Liceo Artistico Nicolò Barabino in Genua und besuchte danach Paris. Er war bekannt und befreundet mit zahlreichen Künstlern wie WOLS, Francis Bacon, der Gruppe Cobra, Fontana, Lam, Matta, Baj oder Corneille, die teils sein Werk beeinflussten. Mehrfach stellte er auf der Biennale in Venedig aus.

Scanavino is one of the most important representatives of Abstract Art in Italy after the second World War. He studied at the art school Liceo Artistico Nicolò Barabino in Genoa and then visited Paris. He was known and friends with many artists such as WOLS​​, Francis Bacon, The Cobra Group, Fontana, Lam, Matta, bay or Corneille, some of which influenced his work. Several times he exhibited at the Venice Biennale.
