Ján Mudroch biography:
Ján Mudroch was the first principal of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava. He was a co-founder of a group that published surrealist magazines and anthologies. In his works, he mainly focused on still life paintings and often made use of metaphors and symbols. During the war period he created works that strongly expressed the misery. He turned towards Poetic Realism after the Second World War. He was awarded the title of ‘Artist of Outstanding Merit’ of Slovakia in 1963 and posthumously the title of ‘National Artist’ of Slovakia in 1968
