Born in Courland, Latvia moved and stay for a while at Ozone Park, NY she was a painter of landscape , marines, streets scenes in Eastern europe specialy, she studied at Acadademy of Fine Arts, Riga, Latvia, landscape painting with Vilhelms Purvitis, 1925-32, diploma, 1932.
Exhibited: Ligoa Duncan Gallery, NYC & Paris VI, France, 1970s; Kuntshaus, Düsseldorf, Germany, 1949 (solo); Galerie Int., NYC, 1958 (solo), Ligoa Duncan Gallery, New York, 1963 (solo); Raymond Duncan Gallery, Paris, France, 1966 (solo) & 1972 (solo).
Work: State Mus. Latvia, Riga; City Mus. Liepaja, Latvia.

In 1932, he graduated from the Latvian Academy of Arts with diploma work “Near the sea ‘’ (under the guidance of V.Purvitis).
Gailis worked as a drawing and art history teacher at Rezekne secondary school.
At 1944 he emigrated to Germany, there he was active in painting. He had solo exhibitions in Heidelberg, Stuttgart, Munich, Dusseldorf, Belgium and Holland.
Since 1950 lived in the USA, prized by Latvian North American Culture fund. Exhibited in the biggest arts centres of USA, Canada and Western Europe; his work was highly valuated.
During his American period, the artist switched to abstract expressionism.

Né à Courtland, Lettonie, elle parcourt l'Europe de l'est, pays avoisinants sa Lettonie natale, tout en peignant de merveilleux paysages, marines et quelques scènes de rue, des dites villes de ce coin du monde. Elle étudia à l'académie des beaux arts de Riga, sous la direction de Vilhelms Purvitis entre 1924 et 32, pour finalement graduer en 1932. Elle s'exile aux États Unis, où elle enseignera l'art graphique et l'art pictural, dans de grandes écoles, tout en gardant la flamme qui l'anime pour la peinture à l'huile. De nombreuses expositions de ses oeuvres eurent lieu un peu partout dans le monde, et ses oeuvres font toujours bonne figure dans les maisons de vente de la planète.
