Jilali Gharbaoui est un artiste marocain, né en 1930 et décédé en 1971. Il est considéré comme le premier peintre abstrait marocain. Orphelin, il étudie à l’Académie des Arts de Fès avant de venir étudier à l’Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris en 1952. Il fréquente ensuite l’Académie Julian. Ayant une solide culture artistique, il se tourne vers l’art abstrait. En 1955, il est de retour au Maroc, il s’installe à Rabat avant de partir pour Rome où il étudie pendant 1 an à l’Academia delle Belli Arti. Puis il retourne dans son pays natal. En 1959, il retourne à Paris et se lie d’amitié avec Pierre Restany et Henri Michaux. Il participe au Salon des Comparaisons et se voit être sélectionné pour une exposition itinérante au Japon, Mexique, Allemagne. En 1971, il décède sur le Champ de Mars, à cause de son importante consommation d’alcool et de drogues.
