Under Frichs store studiereise gjennom Gudbrandsdalen og ned Romsdalen i 1845 utførte han en rekke tegninger
fra Romsdalen. Tegningene ble senere benyttet til blant annet hans store dekorasjoner i spisesalen på Oscarshall
som ble bygget mellom 1847 og 1852. Auksjonens maleri er utført i denne perioden og kan kanskje sees som et
forarbeide til hans store dekorasjon \\\"Romsdalshorn ved Mogne i Romsdalen\\\" fra 1850.
