John Julius Ringdahl studied at the Art Academy. He painted mythological and biblical subjects, later genre paintings such as children playing, boys fishing and animals. He also painted some portraits. He had the reputation as a great artist and in 1860 became a teacher in School Principle.

Johan Julius Ringdahl studerade vid Konstakademien. Han målade mytologiska och bibliska ämnen, senare genretavlor exempelvis lekande barn, fiskande pojkar och djur. Han målade även en del porträtt. Han hade anseende som skicklig tecknare och blev 1860 lärare i Principskolan.
