Kees van Dongen biography:
Kees van Dongen studied at the Academy of Fine Arts there from 1892 to 1897. Van Dongen entered the Parisian art scene at the height of Fauvism during the years of the Salon des Independants and Salon d\'Automne. He was one of the most succesfull painters of the 1920\'s and 1930\'s. The artistic production of van Dongen was strongly influenced by the fauve painters in the first decade of the 20th century. Still it was complicated to trace the production year of the paintings, because van Dongen seldom dated his work.
Van Dongen’s paintings of women, dancers and nudes are composed of rich vivid colors and bold outlines. The simplified forms and emotional distortions were used to express his passionate involvement with contemporary life in Paris.

Kees Van Dongen est un artiste hollandaise né en 1977 et décédé en 1968. Il étudie à l’Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts de Rotterdam. A ses débuts, ses sujets picturaux sont souvent des prostituées hollandaises ou encore des matelots. Il s’installe ensuite à Paris où il rencontre notamment Félix Fénéon. Il présente plusieurs oeuvres au Salon des indépendants en 1904 où il rencontre Matisse et Vlaminck. Puis il expose au fameux Salon d’Automne de 1905 aux côtés des fauves. Il devient ensuite un artiste mondain et est décoré, en 1922, de la Légion d’honneur. Six ans plus tard, il reçoit la nationalité française.
