Louis Lozowick was born in Ludvinovka in the Ukraine in January 1892. He attended the Kiev Art School from 1904 to 1906 and immigrated to the United States at age fourteen. He studied for three years at the National Academy of Design with Leon Kroll and attended Ohio State University. Between 1919 and 1924, he traveled extensively in Europe, including Russia.
