Mario CHICHORRO est un artiste portugais né en 1932. Il étudie l’architecture pendant 2 ans à l’Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Porto. Il travaille ensuite à Lisbonne et Porto pour des architectes. Il part travailler à Perpignan en 1963 et environ 3 ans plus tard, il réalise ses premières peintures sur toile, sur papier, sur carton ou encore sur bois. Il ne se consacre plus qu’à la peinture. Son travail, sortes de bas-reliefs, est un compromis entre peinture et sculpture. Influencé par le travail de Picasso, de Chaissac, de Dubuffet, des surréalistes ou encore par l’art roman, plusieurs de ses œuvres sont intégrées à la collection Neuve Invention, à Lausanne. Chichorro expose tant en France qu’à l’étranger et intègre au fil du temps, de nouveaux matériaux à ses œuvres : tissus, résine synthétique, mousse de polyuréthanne ou encore aggloméré de liège. Chichorro travaille aujourd’hui encore à Perpignan.
