
Max RENO

Max Reno was born in Bavaria, Germany. He studied art at the Royal Academy in Munich, Germany. Known as a modernist painter, Max immigrated to the United States about 1922. He and his brother, Louis, opened the Reno Art School in Los Angeles in 1924. During the 1920s the brothers maintained a home at 257 South Spring Street in Los Angeles and were active as commercial artists. Max worked in oils, watercolors, etchings, drawings, and silhouettes.
In 1923 he exhibited at the Group of Independent Artists exhibition in Los Angeles, which included other noteworthy artists Charles Austin, Ben Berlin, Nick Brigante, Boris Deutsch, Peter Krasnow, Stanton Macdonald-Wright, Morgan Russell, and Edouard Vysekal.
