In 1993, this painting was submitted to an auction house in Copenhagen. The painting was owned by a woman "EI" but was submitted by an agent "LS". The painting was sold for 70,000 Danish crowns but it was found soon that it was a forgery made by "EI". The case was heard in Aarhus, Denmark in connection with another forged painting. Although it was submitted of "EI" for sale at the auction house N & T in Aarhus in November 1994. During a search of the forger "EI" in Denmark found a painting studio with a large number of counterfeit works of art by famous artists such as William Paerels, Alixis Kreyder, Edward Cucuel, Ilya Repin, Magnus von Wright, Ragnar Ekelund, Fritz Thaulow ... Police also found a large archive that suggested that many counterfeits have already has become sold in foreign auction houses across Europe. "EI" is of Russian origin and lived for a short period in Denmark. She managed to escape the police and it is believed that she is now based in The Nederlands.

When submitting informed the woman that she bought the painting in Hamburg by an art dealer from Amsterdam. The painting was valued at 40,000 DK. During review, it was found that it was a forgery.
