Pollack Nisbet - Pollack Sinclair Nisbet (1848 - 1922). Born in Edinburgh, 18 October. Painter in oil and watercolour of townscapes and coastal scenes, landscapes and architectural subjects. Elder brother of Robert Buchan Nisbet. He was educated at the Edinburgh Institution, having started at a lawyers office. He was a pupil of Horatio McCulloch. He also travelled extensively in Italy, Morocco, Algeria, Tunis and Spain; also Holland and Belgium. His Scottish landscapes are rather formally handled and conventionally composed. His best and most characteristic works are his paintings of market places and the characteristic buildings of Morocco and Spain. He exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy, Royal Society of Watercolour Painters, Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts, Aberdeen Artists Society, the Royal Hibernian Academy and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours. He died in Edinburgh, 28th December.
