After its formal education, Armand Rassenfosse entered the family business as a dealer in objects of art. Entirely self-taught in fine art, he forged a solid reputation as a draftsman, printmaker, illustrator and poster designer. Abandoning the family trade, he worked with the printer Auguste Benard, becoming an officer of the firm. He excelled in book illustration and graphic design. His home, where he maintained a studio was a meeting place of artists, poets and writers. In 1886, with the printmaker Felecien Rops, he developed a process for soft ground, transparent, resistant, printmaking named "Ropsenfosse".
