This painting and three other paintings were found associated with a husransakan in a residence June 2011. Suspicion immediately arose that the paintings was not genuine. They were seized by the police for further investigation. The owner says the polisförhr that he bought the paintings at a market in China. Experts in both Stockholm and New York has assessed the paintings as fakes. The District Court's assessment: The painting has not been painted nor signed by Francis Newton Souza, there is a copy of a falsified signature ostensibly depicting an original work by Francis Newton Souza. Warning! The signature should be removed in the painting and the back should be applied "this is a copy of a painting of Francis Newton Souza." Thereafter, the paintings returned to owner. There is a risk that they will once again get a signature and will be for sale on the market in Europe or the U.S.
