Hans Makart war 1869 von München nach Wien übersiedelt, hatte hier ein grandioses Atelier in der Gußhausstraße bezogen und in einem Stil eingerichtet, den man damals restlos bewunderte und tausendfach nachahmte. Sehr bald war er einer der begehrtesten Bildnismaler und es gefiel den porträtierten Damen der Wiener Gesellschaft, sich von dem Maler in eine unwirkliche Phantasiewelt versetzen zu lassen. Es war dies der Ausdruck eines historistischen Lebensstils, zu dessen bedeutendstem und einflußreichsten Exponenten sich Hans Makart entwickelte.

Hans Makart was moved in 1869 from Munich to Vienna, here had a terrific studio based in Gußhausstraße and furnished in a style that is then completely admired and imitated a thousand times. Very soon he was one of the most sought-after portrait painter and it pleased the portraits of Viennese society ladies to himself transferred by the painter in a surreal fantasy world.
