Harald Kjær arbejdede oprindelig som Dekorationsmaler. 1914-19 var han ansat paa Den kgl. Porcelainsfabrik, hvor han udførte en Del Arbejder i Underglasur. Han sluttede sig til Dyrehavens Malere og faldt naturligt ind i den traditionelle Naturopfattelse, som er karakteristisk for denne Kreds.
