Harald Kjær arbejdede oprindelig som Dekorationsmaler. 1914-19 var han ansat paa Den kgl. Porcelainsfabrik, hvor han udførte en Del Arbejder i Underglasur. Han sluttede sig til Dyrehavens Malere og faldt naturligt ind i den traditionelle Naturopfattelse, som er karak­teristisk for denne Kreds. Hans senere Billeder, hvor han med Forkærlighed har vist Køer i Bevægelse, kan minde om N. P. Mols.
