Hjalmar Grahn studied in Helsinki and at the Académie Colarossi in Paris. He made trips to South Africa and Chile. He became a Swedish citizen 1924. He has painted interiors, landscapes, often stockholm motives, the archipelago, as well as still lifes. He became a member of the Academy in 1944
