Otto Geyer, der Bruder des Architekten Albert Geyer, studierte in den Jahren 1859 bis 1864 an der Königlichen Akademie der Künste[1] und im Atelier des Bildhauers Hermann Schievelbein. Nach dem Tod Schievelbeins im Jahr 1867 übernahm er dessen Atelier. Geyer setzte 1869 seine Studien in Kopenhagen am Thorvaldsen-Museum fort.
Ab 1891 unterrichtete er an der Technischen Hochschule Charlottenburg (heute Technische Universität Berlin), ab 1892 auch an der II. Handwerksschule, deren Leiter er 1904 bis 1913 war. 1893 erhielt Geyer den Professorentitel. Schüler Geyers sind u. a. die Bildhauerin Lilli Finzelberg und der Porzellankünstler Hugo Meisel (1887–1966)....
