Renée Sintenis biography:

Renée Sintenis work includes small-sized animal sculptures, female nudes and sports statuettes. From 1907 to 1910, she studied decorative sculpture at the educational establishment of the Museum of Decorative Arts Berlin under Wilhelm Haverkamp. From 1913, Sintenis had success with the first small format sculptures and was represented in exhibitions of the Berlin Secession. She met notorious personalities such as Rainer Maria Rilke and Joachim Ringelnatz. In the 1920s, she celebrated her greatest successes. Her art dealer, the famous Alfred Flechtheim, presented her work on an international level, including Paris and New York. In 1931, the artist was a member of the Berlin Academy, from which she was expelled during the Third Reich. From 1947, Sintenis worked as a professor at the Berlin Academy of Fine Arts. Her best-known work is the Berlin Bear, which is awarded annually to the winners of the International Film Festival.
