For over 70 years, Webb Young studied and painted the New Mexico landscape, architecture, and people. Trips to northern Arizona have also yielded some renditions of Navajo life and the Grand Canyon. Young was born in Covington, Kentucky on September 2, 1913. He grew up in Winnetka, a suburb on the lake near Chicago, Illinois, where his father was in the advertising business. His mother was a concert pianist. Widely known as "Painter of the New Mexico Scene," Webb Young had an interest in painting that began at age 11 with art classes at the Chicago Art Institute. From 1925 through 1928, he was in New Mexico studying painting under the painter, Gerald Cassidy. In 1927, Young attended a session in Vienna under art teacher Cezik. He attended training sessions at Chicago Art Institute in 1933 and 1934, and studied at the Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico in the mid 60's.
